Preparation Timeline

Suggested phase-by-phase study plan

Phase 1: Concept Mastery & Syllabus Completion Months 1-3

Build a strong foundation in all four subjects (Math, English, Reasoning, GA) focusing directly on Tier-II depth.

  • Complete Arithmetic and Advanced Maths concepts. Learn shortcut formulas and theorems.
  • Master English grammar rules entirely and read newspaper editorials daily for comprehension skills.
  • Study Static GK (History, Polity, Geography) from Lucent's General Knowledge.
  • Learn basic touch typing on a keyboard to prepare early for the mandatory DEST.
Phase 2: Speed Building & Sectional Mocks Months 4-5

Increase problem-solving speed and familiarize yourself with the TCS question pattern.

  • Solve SSC CGL Previous Year Chapter-wise questions (last 4-5 years) for all subjects.
  • Take sectional mock tests to improve speed in Maths and Reasoning.
  • Memorize English vocabulary (OWS, Idioms, Synonyms) heavily from previous year compilations.
  • Review monthly current affairs compilations.
Phase 3: Full Mocks & Tier-II Simulation Months 6-7 (Leading to Tier-II)

Time management, mitigating the 1-mark negative penalty in Tier-II, and clearing the computer cut-off.

  • Take full-length Tier-I and Tier-II mock tests in a simulated exam environment.
  • Strictly analyze mock test errors. Focus heavily on English reading comprehension as it holds maximum weightage (45 questions).
  • Study Computer Basics deeply. Do not ignore this section as failing it disqualifies the entire exam.
  • Practice typing 2000 keystrokes in 15 minutes daily to clear the DEST confidently.
